Horizon Retail Solutions Launches New Cash Rounding Feature to Ensure Smooth Retail Operations Post-Penny
HUNT VALLEY, MD (December 4, 2025): Horizon Retail Solutions today announced the general availability of a feature to help farm, home and rural retail chains manage cash transactions after the elimination of the U.S. penny coin.
This news comes as the Federal Reserve continues to suspend coin distribution terminals for penny services, resulting in shortages in markets across the country. The Treasury Department has confirmed that production of the penny has ceased.
“Many of our retailers are already having trouble keeping pennies in stock, especially in smaller communities. We’re excited to get this deployed to those locations,” said Michael Neame, General Manager of Horizon.
“By using our new penny rounding feature, farm and home retail chains can be assured that rounding is conducted according to federal laws, as those laws emerge.

- Configurable rounding either down or to the nearest nickel
- Handling of multiple payment types in a single purchase, rounding on returns
